Punjab Green Credit Programme Draws Over 164,000 Registrants for Eco Initiatives
LAHORE: The Punjab government’s Green Credit Programme has successfully attracted more than 164,000 registrants, with 14,647 individuals already earning credits for their environmental initiatives. This initiative aims to promote sustainable practices among citizens, particularly in the realm of electric vehicle adoption, which constitutes over 70 percent of all applications received.
According to programme data, a significant number of participants, 46,365, hail from Lahore, while the remaining 114,913 registrants come from various districts across the province. Notably, the demographic breakdown reveals that men account for 144,036 of the total registrants, highlighting a potential area for increased female participation in future initiatives.
The Green Credit Programme not only incentivizes eco-friendly practices but also contributes to the broader goal of reducing carbon emissions in Punjab. By encouraging the use of electric vehicles and other sustainable practices, the programme aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility among citizens, which could have long-term benefits for public health and the local economy.
Looking ahead, the Punjab government plans to enhance outreach efforts to engage more citizens, particularly women, in the programme. Future developments may include workshops and informational sessions to educate the public on the benefits of participating in environmental initiatives.
