Balochistan High Court Orders Traffic Survey on Quetta’s Joint Road

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court has mandated a thorough survey of Joint Road in Quetta to assess traffic obstructions linked to shops near a proposed filling station, as well as issues concerning a road-widening initiative. The court’s directive came during a hearing on Wednesday, led by Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mulakhail and Justice Muhammad Najmuddin Mengal.

The bench instructed the director of the Balochistan Traffic Engineering Bureau to collaborate with the director general of the bureau and conduct the survey in the presence of representatives from the Advocate General’s Office, Pakistan Railways, and the petitioner or their legal counsel. The court was informed that the shops in question are impeding traffic flow and could potentially exacerbate congestion on the road.

During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel highlighted that a site inspection had been carried out. Despite an earlier decision to remove the shops obstructing the road in front of the proposed filling station, the necessary steps had not been taken, raising concerns about future traffic bottlenecks.

The court’s order reflects a growing concern over urban planning and traffic management in Quetta, which is crucial for the city’s development and the daily commute of its residents. The upcoming survey is expected to provide insights that could lead to effective solutions for improving traffic conditions. Further developments are anticipated as the court awaits reports from the relevant authorities.
