Ukraine Accuses US of Aiding Russia Amid Missile Strikes on Kyiv
KYIV: Ukraine has accused the United States of indirectly aiding Russia by failing to provide timely warnings of missile strikes and by imposing restrictions on the Starlink system crucial for its military operations. This accusation follows a series of missile attacks that struck Kyiv on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the lack of advance notice regarding the missile strikes as “completely unjust” and criticized Russia for violating a purported “energy ceasefire” that was allegedly brokered by former US President Donald Trump. A senior Ukrainian official indicated that the US had threatened to halt intelligence sharing on Russian missile launches, which Ukraine relies on to defend against such attacks. Trump, however, denied these claims.
The situation raises significant concerns about the implications for Ukraine’s defense capabilities, as officials suggest that the US may be responsible for the slower operational speeds of some Starlink internet terminals. These terminals are vital for coordinating military actions against Russian forces and managing drone operations. Zelensky’s adviser, Sergiy Beskrestnov, emphasized that the timing of the missile strikes and the Starlink limitations cannot be mere coincidence.
As tensions escalate, Ukraine is likely to seek further clarification from the US regarding its intelligence support and the operational status of Starlink. The ongoing conflict and these developments could lead to a reevaluation of international military assistance and diplomatic relations between Ukraine and its allies.
