Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Chattha Walk Out of Jail Trial Over Security Case
RAWALPINDI: Rights activist Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, walked out of a court hearing on Friday, objecting to the jail trial proceedings concerning a security breach case. The couple, along with their legal team, expressed dissatisfaction with the trial’s format, leading to their exit from the proceedings held at Adiala Jail.
Their defense counsel has formally requested an end to the jail trial, arguing that the current arrangements are unjust. The case revolves around allegations that the couple disrupted a security route designated for an international cricket team and incited public unrest by removing barriers from the route. Both were indicted on October 7.
This incident highlights ongoing tensions within Pakistan’s legal system, particularly regarding the treatment of activists and the implications of security-related charges. The couple’s case has drawn attention to broader issues of civil rights and judicial processes in the country.
Looking ahead, the next hearing is expected to address the defense’s application to terminate the jail trial, with further developments anticipated in the coming weeks as the legal battle unfolds.
