Punjab Faces Imminent Textbook Shortage Due to Tender Delays

LAHORE: Punjab is on the brink of a textbook shortage for the upcoming academic year, as delays in the issuance of printing tenders for primary school books raise significant concerns about timely publication. The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PECTAA) has already issued tenders for textbooks for grades 6 to 10, but the tenders for grades 1 to 5 remain pending, creating uncertainty for students and educators alike.

Officials from the Punjab Education Department have expressed alarm over the situation, emphasizing that without prompt action, students may start the new school year without essential learning materials. A spokesperson for PECTAA stated, “We are working diligently to expedite the tender process, but unforeseen delays have hindered our progress. We understand the urgency and are committed to resolving these issues swiftly.”

This potential shortage could have far-reaching implications for the education sector in Punjab, affecting not only students’ learning experiences but also the overall quality of education. Parents and educators are increasingly concerned that a lack of textbooks could lead to disruptions in the curriculum and hinder academic performance, particularly for younger students who rely heavily on these resources.

Moving forward, the Punjab Education Department plans to hold an emergency meeting to address the tender delays and explore alternative solutions to ensure that textbooks are available before the academic year begins. Stakeholders are hopeful that swift action will mitigate the impact of this situation on students and schools across the province.
