Two Suspected Robbers Shot Dead in Karachi Encounter Near Qalandria Chowk
KARACHI: At least two suspected armed robbers were shot dead during an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement personnel near Qalandria Chowk in Karachi, police officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to local police authorities, the confrontation erupted when a motorized patrol unit intercepted two armed individuals allegedly involved in street criminal activities in the vicinity. Upon being signalled to pull over, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the police personnel in an attempt to evade arrest, triggering a swift retaliatory response. Both suspects sustained critical gunshot wounds during the shootout and succumbed to their injuries before they could be transferred to medical facilities. Police recovered illicit firearms, ammunition, and suspected stolen valuables from their possession.
Street crime and armed robberies remain persistent security challenges across Pakistan’s economic hub, prompting intensified proactive patrolling and targeted counter-crime operations by the Sindh Police. Civil society organizations and local trade bodies have consistently voiced alarm over the surge in violent muggings across the metropolis, calling on provincial administrative authorities to enhance digital surveillance frameworks and accelerate institutional reforms within the local precinct network.
The bodies of the deceased suspects were subsequently transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for mandatory medico-legal formalities and biometric identification. Senior investigative officers stated that forensic analysis of the recovered weapons is actively underway to verify whether the deceased individuals were linked to earlier high-profile robbery syndicates and outstanding criminal cases registered across the city.
