Punjab CTD Arrests Eight Suspected Terrorists in Intelligence Operations
LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab Police has apprehended eight suspected militants belonging to proscribed organizations during intelligence-based operations conducted across multiple districts of the province, officials confirmed on Saturday. The targeted operations were executed to pre-empt planned sabotage activities and secure vital public installations following precise actionable intelligence.
According to an official spokesperson for the CTD, the counter-terror sweeps were simultaneously carried out across major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Multan. Law enforcement personnel recovered an assortment of prohibited materials from the possession of the detained suspects, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs), detonators, electronic switches, subversive literature, and significant amounts of cash designated for terrorist financing networks.
The proactive crackdown highlights the intensifying security measures enforced across Punjab in response to heightened cross-border security concerns and localized asymmetric threats. Operating under the broader framework of the revised National Action Plan, provincial authorities have redoubled their surveillance mechanisms around transportation hubs, sensitive government installations, and places of worship to prevent any disruptive incidents orchestrated by outlawed outfits.
Cases have been registered against all eight suspects under relevant sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), with formal investigations now underway to uncover forward and backward linkages. Intelligence officials indicated that the detainees are being interrogated at undisclosed facilities, while expanded comb-and-search operations will continue across vulnerable border belts and urban clusters to neutralize associated sleep cells.
