NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with United States President Donald Trump during a reception banquet hosted by Trump for world leaders on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) last month. The meeting took place in New York, where global leaders gathered to discuss pressing international issues.
The Press Information Department (PID) released details of the encounter on Thursday, including photographs from the White House showing the two leaders smiling and shaking hands. However, no further specifics regarding their discussion were disclosed.
This meeting comes in the context of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, particularly its role as a mediator for de-escalation between the US and other nations. During the UNGA debate, which ran from September 22 to 26, PM Shehbaz addressed the assembly on September 25 and was notably mentioned by President Trump, who referred to him as a ‘terrific man.’ Additionally, the Prime Minister engaged in bilateral discussions with various world leaders, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
