JUI-F Calls for End to Character Assassination Campaign Against Fazlur Rehman

ISLAMABAD: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has urged its political rivals to cease what it describes as a campaign of character assassination against its leader, Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Hafiz Naseer Ahmed Ahrar, the party’s General Secretary for Punjab, made this appeal on Monday, emphasizing the need for political discourse to focus on the pressing challenges facing Pakistan.

In his statement, Ahrar criticized the ongoing attacks on Rehman, asserting that his comments should be interpreted within the context of the nation’s difficulties. He accused opponents of attempting to malign Rehman rather than engaging in constructive political debate. Ahrar specifically called out Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, challenging her to clarify who enabled the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) lengthy governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This situation highlights the increasingly contentious political landscape in Pakistan, where character attacks have become a common tactic among rival parties. The implications of such campaigns can undermine public trust in political figures and distract from substantive policy discussions that are crucial for the country’s progress.

Looking ahead, Ahrar’s remarks may signal a potential escalation in political rhetoric as the JUI-F prepares for upcoming electoral contests. The party’s leadership is likely to continue defending Rehman against perceived slights while also seeking to rally support among its base.
