Government Reviews Fertiliser Supply for Upcoming Rabi Season
ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of National Food Security and Research has expressed satisfaction with the current fertiliser supply situation across Pakistan as the Rabi cropping season approaches.
During a Fertiliser Review Committee meeting on Tuesday, chaired by National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, officials assessed the availability, market prices, distribution arrangements, and supply requirements for the upcoming season. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring adequate fertiliser stocks to meet farmers’ needs throughout Rabi.
Official statistics indicate that urea consumption for the Rabi season 2026-27 is projected at approximately 3,596,000 tonnes, reflecting a slight increase from 3,563,000 tonnes in the previous season. Additionally, DAP offtake is expected to reach around 838,000 tonnes, marking a 0.4% rise compared to Rabi 2025-26. Overall, total fertiliser offtake is anticipated to increase by 0.8% from the last season, highlighting a growing demand among farmers.
Looking ahead, the government plans to monitor the fertiliser supply closely to prevent market exploitation and ensure that farmers receive the necessary support. Further meetings are expected to address any emerging challenges as the Rabi season progresses.
