Saudi Coalition Intercepts Six Drones Amid Escalating Houthi Conflict

RIYADH: The Saudi-led coalition announced on Wednesday that it successfully intercepted six drones launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement, targeting various cities including Madina. This escalation comes amid ongoing tensions in the region, raising concerns over security and stability.

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki confirmed the interceptions via social media, stating that four drones were destroyed in the Eastern region and Madina. Despite the coalition’s claims, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree denied any involvement in deep operations within Saudi territory, asserting that their forces had not targeted the kingdom.

The Saudi energy ministry reported that debris from the intercepted drones caused the deaths of two individuals, highlighting the potential dangers posed by such aerial assaults. The situation is further complicated by Iran’s warning that Egypt’s involvement in the Yemen conflict could exacerbate the already volatile circumstances.

As international leaders respond, French President Emmanuel Macron made a surprise visit to Riyadh, signaling solidarity with Saudi Arabia. The coalition’s ongoing efforts to secure its airspace will likely continue, with further developments expected as regional tensions rise.
