Five-Year-Old Girl Killed, Mother Injured in Tragic Chilas House Fire
CHILAS: A tragic house fire in the Chilas region of Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district claimed the life of a five-year-old girl and left her mother critically injured, local police and emergency authorities confirmed on Tuesday. The blaze swept through the residential property rapidly, trapping the victims inside before local residents and rescue teams could arrive at the scene.
According to initial reports from rescue officials, the young girl succumbed to fatal burn injuries and severe smoke inhalation on the spot. Emergency medical responders managed to pull the mother from the burning structure after she sustained severe burns while attempting to save her child. She was immediately rushed to the District Headquarter (DHQ) Hospital in Chilas, where medical personnel described her condition as critical.
Accidental domestic fires remain a recurring hazard in the mountainous northern territories of Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly during colder periods when households rely heavily on gas heaters, firewood, or vulnerable electrical connections. Local community leaders expressed intense grief over the tragedy and urged the regional administration to bolster fire response infrastructure and establish dedicated fire stations in remote areas to prevent similar disasters.
District law enforcement officers have launched a comprehensive inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause of the fire, focusing on potential electrical short-circuiting or heating appliance failure. Meanwhile, local administrative officials visited the site to evaluate the damage and promised emergency assistance to the grieving family.
