Rawalpindi Utilities Must Obtain Road-Cutting Permits to Avoid Disruptions
RAWALPINDI: The divisional administration has mandated that utility service departments must secure road-cutting permissions and a no-objection certificate (NOC) before initiating any development work. This directive was issued on Thursday by Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani during a meeting focused on the management of underground utility lines and road-cutting permissions.
Commissioner Ghani emphasized the need for this regulation, citing that repeated road excavations in urban areas lead to significant public inconvenience, exacerbating traffic congestion and wasting resources. He stated, “We cannot allow agencies to disrupt the flow of city life without proper authorization.”
This new policy aims to streamline the process of utility installations while minimizing disruptions to daily commuters and residents. The decision reflects a growing concern over urban infrastructure management, as unregulated digging has become a common issue in many cities, impacting both mobility and safety.
Moving forward, the administration plans to hold regular reviews of road-cutting applications to ensure compliance with the new regulations. Utility departments are expected to adapt quickly to these changes to avoid penalties and ensure smoother operations in the future.
