Deadly Collision Claims 12 Lives, Injures 22 on Quetta-Karachi Highway
KHUZDAR: A tragic road accident near Zero Point in Uthal, Balochistan, resulted in the deaths of at least 12 passengers and left around 22 others injured on Friday. The collision involved a minibus and a passenger coach on the Quetta-Karachi Highway, according to police reports.
Officials stated that the passenger coach was en route from Gwadar to Karachi while the minibus was heading to Karachi from Bela. The incident occurred when the coach collided head-on with the minibus, leading to immediate fatalities. Seven passengers died at the scene, and five others succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a hospital.
Abdul Hakeem Lasi, in-charge of the Edhi Centre in Bela, reported that Edhi workers swiftly transferred the injured to a local hospital before they were moved to Karachi for further treatment. He noted that the condition of seven injured passengers remains serious, with most casualties occurring in the minibus.
This accident follows another tragic incident just two days prior, where 10 individuals lost their lives and 44 were injured when a passenger bus overturned after hitting a road divider in Rajanpur district’s Rojhan tehsil on the Indus Highway. Such incidents raise concerns about road safety and the need for stricter regulations to prevent further tragedies.
