Energy Minister Bans Detection Bills for Electricity Consumers in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Owais Laghari announced a complete ban on issuing detection bills to electricity consumers, a move aimed at addressing long-standing grievances among users. This decision was made during a board meeting with electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) held on Tuesday.

Laghari emphasized that the ban on detection bills is a significant step towards ensuring fair billing practices and protecting consumer rights. He stated, “No consumer should face unjustified charges, and this policy will help restore trust in our electricity distribution system.” The minister’s announcement comes in response to widespread complaints regarding inflated bills based on estimated usage rather than actual consumption.

This policy change is expected to have a profound impact on millions of electricity consumers across Pakistan, alleviating financial burdens and enhancing transparency in billing practices. It reflects the government’s commitment to reforming the energy sector and addressing consumer concerns, which have been a source of public discontent.

Looking ahead, the Energy Ministry plans to implement further reforms aimed at improving service delivery and efficiency within DISCOs. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in upcoming consultations to discuss additional measures that can enhance consumer protection and service quality.
