By-elections Conclude in Gujranwala’s NA-77 and Sahiwal’s PP-203 Constituencies
GUJRANWALA: Polling for by-elections in two Punjab constituencies, Gujranwala’s NA-77 and Sahiwal’s PP-203, concluded on Sunday, marking a significant electoral event following the vacancies created by the deaths of their respective lawmakers in September.
The polling commenced at 8 AM and continued until 5 PM, allowing those present at the polling stations at closing time to cast their votes. NA-77 became vacant after the death of PML-N’s five-time MNA Chaudhry Mehmood Bashir Virk on September 11 due to a prolonged illness. His son, Rashid Basheer Virk, was among the candidates contesting the by-election, alongside 17 others.
This by-election is crucial as it reflects the political landscape in Punjab, a province that has historically been a stronghold for the PML-N. The outcome could influence party dynamics and voter sentiment ahead of future elections, especially given the recent political shifts in the region.
As the counting of votes begins, all eyes will be on the results, which are expected to be announced shortly. The implications of these elections could resonate beyond local politics, potentially impacting national narratives as parties gear up for the next general elections.
