Giza train collision

GIZA: A tragic train collision occurred south of Cairo on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuring at least 88 others, as reported by Egypt’s health ministry. The incident took place when a train traveling from Giza to Fayoum collided with the rear of another train en route from Cairo to Aswan, derailing several carriages.

The health ministry confirmed that four passengers lost their lives, while 88 others are receiving treatment for various injuries in hospitals across the Giza region. Initial reports from state-owned media had indicated that around 120 people were wounded, but the extent of their injuries remains unclear.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed his deep concern over the accident and has ordered an immediate investigation to ensure accountability for any negligence. This incident has raised alarms, particularly as it occurred in Al-Ayyat, the site of Egypt’s deadliest rail disaster in 2002, which claimed over 370 lives.

Emergency crews are currently working to clear the wreckage using cranes, and authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash. The railway authority is expected to provide further updates as the situation develops.
