Pakistan Shifts to E-Passports, Phasing Out Machine Readable Passports

DOHA: The Embassy of Pakistan in Doha has announced a significant update to its passport application process, transitioning to an e-passport system starting October 15. This change will see the replacement of Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) at all Pakistani diplomatic missions, marking a pivotal shift in how citizens apply for travel documents.

The embassy confirmed that from the specified date, it will no longer accept or process MRP applications, with all new passport requests being handled exclusively under the new e-passport framework. This initiative aims to enhance security and streamline the application process for Pakistani citizens abroad.

The introduction of e-passports is expected to improve the efficiency of passport issuance and bolster security measures, aligning Pakistan with international standards in travel documentation. Officials believe this modernization will facilitate smoother travel for citizens and strengthen the integrity of the passport system.

As the rollout date approaches, Pakistani citizens are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new application procedures. Further updates and guidelines are anticipated from the embassy to ensure a seamless transition to the e-passport system.
