PM Shehbaz Directs Doubling of Loans for Small Businesses in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a significant policy shift aimed at bolstering small businesses in Pakistan by directing the doubling of loans available to entrepreneurs. This initiative was revealed during a meeting focused on the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), where the Prime Minister emphasized the need for a comprehensive framework to facilitate access to these loans.
During the meeting, PM Sharif stated, “We must create a robust plan that not only increases the loan amounts but also simplifies the application process for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).” This move is seen as a crucial step in supporting the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, which is heavily reliant on SMEs for job creation and economic growth.
The doubling of loan amounts is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to small business owners who have been struggling with limited access to credit, particularly in the wake of economic challenges exacerbated by inflation and global market fluctuations. Experts believe that this initiative could stimulate economic activity and foster innovation within the sector.
Looking ahead, the government plans to convene further discussions with financial institutions and stakeholders to finalize the details of the loan program. The Prime Minister’s office has indicated that a timeline for implementation will be established in the coming weeks, with the aim of rolling out the new loan structure as soon as possible.
