PTA Directs Telecom Operators to Immediately Block Fraudulent SIMs
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has enacted stricter regulations regarding SIM card verification, mandating telecom operators to block any SIMs that have been fraudulently issued. This directive aims to enhance security and prevent misuse of telecommunications services across the country.
In a recent announcement, the PTA set a 60-day deadline for the transfer of SIM ownership linked to deceased individuals, emphasizing the need for operators to ensure compliance with these new rules. The authority also instructed that SIMs associated with cancelled, confiscated, or impounded Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) must be blocked immediately to curb fraudulent activities.
This move is expected to significantly impact the telecommunications landscape in Pakistan, as it addresses long-standing issues related to identity theft and fraudulent SIM usage. By tightening these regulations, the PTA aims to protect consumers and enhance the integrity of the telecommunications system, which is vital for both personal and business communications.
Looking ahead, the PTA plans to monitor the implementation of these regulations closely and may introduce further measures to strengthen SIM verification processes. Telecom operators are urged to comply swiftly to avoid penalties and ensure the safety of their customers.
