Pakistan Stock Exchange Maintains Gains Amid Regional Turmoil and Inflation

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) demonstrated resilience on Thursday, maintaining its gains above the 166,000 mark despite ongoing regional and political challenges that threaten macroeconomic stability. Investors engaged in value-hunting for the second consecutive session, propelling the benchmark KSE-100 index to close at 166,186.17, up by 768.66 points or 0.46 percent.

According to Topline Securities Ltd, the index fluctuated between 165,613 and 166,877 during the trading session, reflecting sustained positive momentum driven by renewed buying interest. This recovery was largely attributed to selective accumulation in key index-heavy stocks following a recent market correction. However, investor sentiment remained cautious due to volatility in international oil prices and domestic macroeconomic indicators.

The ongoing fluctuations in oil prices, coupled with geopolitical developments in the Middle East, have raised concerns among investors regarding the broader implications for Pakistan’s economy. Analysts suggest that while the market’s recovery is a positive sign, the underlying inflationary pressures from elevated energy costs could pose significant risks moving forward.

Looking ahead, market participants are expected to closely monitor upcoming economic indicators and institutional fund flows, which will be crucial in determining the PSX’s trajectory in the coming weeks.
