Sindh Government Proposes Raising Retirement Age for University Professors
KARACHI: The Sindh government is set to propose an increase in the retirement age for professors at public sector universities from 60 to 65 years. This initiative was announced by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah during a meeting with vice chancellors of 32 universities on Friday.
During the meeting, which aimed to address various challenges faced by higher education institutions, Chief Secretary Shah emphasized the need for a summary to be prepared and submitted to the Sindh cabinet for approval. He highlighted that this change could help retain experienced faculty members and enhance the academic environment in the province.
The proposed increase in retirement age comes amid ongoing discussions about the financial and administrative hurdles confronting public universities. By allowing professors to work longer, the government aims to mitigate the impact of faculty shortages and improve the quality of education offered to students.
Looking ahead, the Sindh government plans to finalize the summary and present it to the cabinet in the coming weeks. Stakeholders in the education sector are keenly awaiting the decision, which could significantly influence the landscape of higher education in Sindh.
