Punjab Government Implements Biometric Checks for Civil Registrations

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched a biometric verification system for the registration and issuance of birth, death, and marriage certificates at union councils. This initiative aims to prevent fraudulent registrations and enhance transparency in civil documentation.

Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique inaugurated the Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) in Sheikhupura on Friday, as part of the provincial government’s “Digital Punjab, Transparent Punjab” initiative. Rafique emphasized that this system will significantly reduce instances of fraud and ensure that all civil records are accurate and reliable.

The introduction of biometric checks is expected to streamline the registration process for citizens, making it more efficient and secure. By linking civil records to biometric data, the government aims to create a more trustworthy system that can be accessed easily by citizens while safeguarding against identity theft and fraudulent activities.

Looking ahead, the Punjab government plans to expand the biometric verification system across all districts, ensuring that every citizen can benefit from this technological advancement. Further training for union council staff is also anticipated to facilitate the smooth implementation of the CRMS.
