Concerns Emerge Over Doctors’ Absorption Process at PIMS in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Questions are being raised regarding the Ministry of Health’s management of the absorption process for doctors at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Allegations have surfaced that the ministry is not adhering to a recent Supreme Court ruling concerning the status of certain doctors.
Health ministry spokesperson Sajid Shah has stated that the absorption will be conducted in accordance with the law, asserting that the orders of the apex court will be respected. A senior doctor, who requested anonymity, highlighted that the Supreme Court’s judgement from September 22, 2026, identified 28 doctors who joined PIMS after December 6, 2004, through transfers or postings without following the necessary appointment procedures.
Doctors are urging the health ministry to implement the Supreme Court’s judgement fairly, without discrimination. The ministry’s proposal suggests that these doctors could either be absorbed at the bottom of the seniority list or returned to their original institutions, raising concerns about fairness and professional integrity.
As the situation develops, stakeholders are closely monitoring the ministry’s next steps and the potential implications for healthcare delivery in Pakistan. Further discussions and clarifications from the Ministry of Health are anticipated in the coming weeks.
