NCCIA Issues Warning on Online Blackmail and Fake Profiles Targeting Women

ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued a stern warning regarding the creation of fake social media profiles of women, the leaking of personal data or images, and the subsequent online blackmail that follows. In a statement released on Monday, the agency emphasized that such actions are not only unethical but also constitute punishable cybercrimes under Pakistani law.

The NCCIA’s statement highlights the increasing prevalence of these crimes, which have been exacerbated by the rise of social media platforms. The agency reiterated that blackmailing women, leaking private pictures, and creating fraudulent profiles are serious offenses that can lead to legal repercussions for the perpetrators. “We urge the public to report any suspicious activities to help combat this growing issue,” the statement read.

This warning comes at a time when online harassment and cyberbullying are becoming more common, raising concerns about the safety and privacy of individuals, especially women, in the digital space. The NCCIA’s proactive stance aims to protect citizens and promote a safer online environment, which is crucial for fostering trust in digital platforms.

In light of these developments, the NCCIA plans to enhance its outreach programs to educate the public about online safety and the legal implications of cybercrimes. The agency is also expected to collaborate with social media companies to implement stricter measures against the creation of fake profiles and to support victims of online harassment.
