Alcaraz Exudes Confidence Ahead of Shanghai Masters Return
SHANGHAI: Carlos Alcaraz expressed a sense of mental clarity and readiness as he prepares for the Shanghai Masters, following his recent triumph at the Japan Open. The Spanish tennis star, currently ranked third in the world, secured his first title since recovering from a wrist injury that kept him off the court from April until the US Open in August.
Alcaraz, 23, noted that while his body is still acclimating to the rigors of competitive play, he feels physically fit and mentally rejuvenated. “I’m feeling very good. Physically I’m well, I’m feeling mentally fresh,” he stated during a press conference in Shanghai. His recent victory over Jiri Lehecka in the Japan Open final, where he won 7-6 (7/4), 6-4, has bolstered his confidence as he heads into the tournament.
Despite his positive outlook, Alcaraz has historically struggled at the Shanghai Masters, never advancing beyond the quarter-finals and missing last year’s event due to fitness concerns. He has previously voiced his frustrations regarding the demanding tennis schedule, particularly the autumn swing following the US Open, which he described as not being his strongest period. However, he remains optimistic, declaring himself “ready to take on the challenge” in Shanghai.
As the tournament approaches, Alcaraz aims to build on his recent success and make a significant impact in Shanghai, where he hopes to improve his past performances and contend for the title.
