ATC Indicts Suspect in Murder of PAF Officer Asim Tariq, Witnesses Summoned
ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has indicted Saad Abbasi, the accused in the murder of Group Captain Asim Tariq, during a hearing on Thursday. The court summoned prosecution witnesses to record their statements as the case progresses.
Judge Abual Hasnat Mohammad Zulqarnain presided over the hearing, where Abbasi was presented before the court. The judge read the charges against him, to which Abbasi pleaded not guilty and opted to contest the case. Following the indictment, the court adjourned proceedings until November 2, 2026, while summoning witnesses for the next hearing.
The murder of Group Captain Tariq occurred on July 5, when he was shot while attempting to intervene in an attempted abduction of a woman in Islamabad. The police have registered a case against Abbasi at the Margalla Police Station, highlighting the ongoing issues of public safety and the need for effective law enforcement in the capital.
As the case unfolds, it raises significant concerns regarding security measures for citizens and the judicial process in handling violent crimes. The upcoming hearings will be crucial in determining the course of justice for the late officer and his family.
