Balochistan CM Bugti Advocates Dialogue to Address Provincial Challenges
LAHORE: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti emphasized the importance of dialogue and education in resolving the province’s pressing issues during a convocation ceremony at the University of Management and Technology on Saturday.
Bugti stated that violence stemming from feelings of deprivation or political discord is unjustifiable. He reiterated that the people of Balochistan are equal citizens of Pakistan and their legitimate grievances must be acknowledged and addressed. He highlighted the province’s current challenges, including narratives that justify violence, armed terrorism, and the influence of social media on youth.
The Chief Minister warned against the spread of misleading narratives that exploit Balochistan’s issues, asserting that poverty and underdevelopment should not serve as justifications for separatist violence. He called for a collective effort to foster understanding and political engagement to tackle these challenges effectively.
Looking ahead, Bugti’s remarks signal a potential shift towards more inclusive political dialogue in Balochistan. The provincial government may initiate discussions with various stakeholders to address the root causes of unrest and promote development through democratic practices.
