Bilawal Urges Political Solution Over Emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari stated on Saturday that the federal government was poised to impose emergency measures or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) due to escalating terrorism concerns. However, he emphasized that his party advocates for a political resolution to address the issue more effectively.

Speaking at an event in Karachi, Bilawal revealed that the federal government had been in discussions with President Asif Ali Zardari and the PPP regarding the current political climate. He expressed his belief that the government was fully prepared to implement emergency measures in KP, stating, “In my opinion, the federal government had made up its mind and was 100 percent ready; they wanted to immediately impose emergency or governor’s rule in KP.”

Bilawal acknowledged that while invoking governor’s rule or emergency is a constitutional option, the PPP believes it is crucial for political parties to seek a collaborative approach to combat terrorism. He remarked, “Before dropping this constitutional atomic bomb, political parties should absolutely find a political solution to fight terrorism in a better way.”

Looking ahead, Bilawal indicated that the PPP is keen to engage in dialogue with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding its planned long march to Islamabad on October 4, before any decisions are made regarding the political situation in KP.
