BISP Blocks Over 229,000 Government Employees, Recovers Rs712 Million

ISLAMABAD: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has blocked 229,157 government employees and their spouses from receiving financial assistance after audits revealed their ineligibility. The government disclosed this information in a recent parliamentary session, highlighting a recovery of Rs712.4 million from these ineligible recipients.

Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Syed Imran Ahmad Shah, provided this information in response to a parliamentary inquiry, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring that financial aid reaches only those who truly need it. The audits were part of a broader initiative to enhance transparency and accountability within the program.

This significant action reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and misuse of public funds, which has been a persistent issue in social welfare programs. By identifying and blocking ineligible recipients, the BISP aims to redirect resources to the most vulnerable populations, thereby strengthening the social safety net in Pakistan.

Looking ahead, the BISP plans to continue its audits and monitoring processes to further refine eligibility criteria and prevent future discrepancies. The government is expected to hold discussions on enhancing the program’s framework to ensure more effective distribution of aid in the coming months.
