CDA Auctions Plots for Five-Star Hotels to Tackle Islamabad’s Room Shortage

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to auction five plots designated for the construction of five-star hotels in Islamabad, aiming to alleviate a significant shortfall of over 1,000 hotel rooms ahead of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. Scheduled for August 2027, the summit is expected to draw a large number of international guests, necessitating more than 4,000 available rooms in the city.

Currently, Islamabad’s existing hotels can accommodate approximately 3,000 guests, highlighting a pressing need for additional luxury accommodations. The CDA’s initiative reflects a proactive approach to meet the demands of high-profile events and enhance the city’s hospitality infrastructure. An official from the CDA stated, “This auction is a crucial step towards ensuring that we can host international dignitaries comfortably and showcase Islamabad as a premier destination for global events.”

The implications of this development extend beyond mere accommodation; it signals a potential boost to the local economy through increased tourism and job creation in the hospitality sector. As Islamabad prepares to welcome international guests, the enhancement of its hotel infrastructure could also improve the city’s global image and attract future events.

Looking ahead, the CDA plans to finalize the auction process within the next few months, with construction expected to commence shortly thereafter. This initiative not only addresses the immediate room shortage but also lays the groundwork for long-term growth in Islamabad’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
