Centre Warns of Emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amid Terrorism Concerns

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has concluded discussions regarding the potential imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry warning that insufficient cooperation from the provincial government on counter-terrorism efforts may compel the Centre to take drastic measures.

During an appearance on Geo News’ programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath’, Chaudhry refrained from confirming reports of a high-level meeting scheduled for Saturday to deliberate on the emergency. He emphasized that the Centre is prepared to act decisively to combat terrorism if the provincial government fails to cooperate.

This warning comes as tensions escalate between the federal government and the PTI-led KP administration, particularly as the PTI organizes protest marches demanding the release of its imprisoned leader, Imran Khan. Federal officials have cited the deteriorating security situation in KP as a significant factor in considering the imposition of emergency measures or even governor’s rule.

Looking ahead, the situation remains fluid, with potential developments expected in the coming days. The Centre’s next steps will likely hinge on the KP government’s response to the federal demands for enhanced security cooperation.
