ISLAMABAD: As winter approaches, residents of the federal capital are facing a troubling shortage of influenza vaccines, leaving many families anxious about the health risks associated with the flu season.

According to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, receiving an annual seasonal flu vaccine is crucial for reducing the risk of flu and its serious complications. However, local citizens like Naeem Ahmed report that they have been unable to find the vaccine despite extensive searches at various medical stores.

Ahmed, who has been administering the vaccine to his mother every year in October, expressed his frustration, stating, “This year it seems that my mother will become vulnerable to influenza as the vaccine may remain unavailable.” Another resident, Sohail Jamil, echoed similar concerns, having encountered the same unavailability at multiple pharmacies.

The lack of access to influenza vaccines raises significant public health concerns, particularly as the flu season can lead to increased hospitalizations and strain on healthcare resources. Health officials are urged to address this shortage promptly to ensure that vulnerable populations can receive the necessary vaccinations before the peak of the flu season.
