Contractor Charged After Biker Family Injured in Okara Road Incident

OKARA: A contractor overseeing a development project has been booked for negligence after a biker and his family suffered injuries when their motorcycle plunged into an unmarked pit on Basirpur Road. The incident occurred on Sunday, raising serious concerns about safety measures at construction sites.

The first information report (FIR) indicates that the contractor, identified as Akhtar, failed to implement necessary safety protocols around the digging site in Dipalpur tehsil. The biker, along with his wife and children, fell into the pit, resulting in injuries that prompted immediate medical attention.

Deputy Commissioner Ikram Malik responded swiftly to the incident, ordering legal action against the contractor. The Dipalpur city police registered a case under Section 165 of The Punjab Local Government Act 2025, following a report from Municipal Committee Enforcement Inspector Akram Fraz. This incident highlights the ongoing issues of safety compliance in public works projects, which can have dire consequences for citizens.

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the contractor’s practices and the overall safety measures in place for ongoing projects. This case may prompt a review of regulations governing construction sites to prevent future accidents and ensure public safety.
