Cristiano Ronaldo Scores as Al-Nassr Overcomes Security Delay to Win 3-1
RIYADH: Cristiano Ronaldo netted Al-Nassr’s second goal as the Saudi Pro League champions triumphed over Uzbekistan’s Neftchi with a score of 3-1, following an hour-long security delay on Monday.
The match’s kick-off was postponed after Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence issued a safety warning just 15 minutes before the scheduled start, amid recent missile threats from Yemen-based Houthis targeting the region.
Despite the disruption, Al-Nassr took the lead in the 33rd minute through Angelo’s deflected strike, followed by Ronaldo’s impressive goal nine minutes later. The 41-year-old Portuguese forward capitalized on a looping cross from Sadio Mane, expertly turning and firing the ball into the bottom corner. Neftchi’s Alisher Odilov managed to pull one back early in the second half, but a red card for Ikromjon Alibaev in the 65th minute and an own goal by Anvarjon Gofurov sealed the victory for Al-Nassr.
This win not only boosts Al-Nassr’s confidence in the AFC Champions League but also highlights Ronaldo’s enduring impact on the field, even at 41. The team will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixtures as they aim to defend their title in the tournament.
