ECP Directs Local Government Elections in KP, Excludes 12 Districts

KP local government elections

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the scheduling of local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for districts that have undergone delimitation, while excluding 12 districts under the Administrative Reforms and Development Committee (ARDC) guidelines.

The decision, made public on Thursday, aims to ensure a fair electoral process in the regions that have been properly delineated. An ECP spokesperson stated, “The commission is committed to conducting transparent elections and has taken necessary measures to facilitate this process in the eligible districts.” The excluded districts will remain under the current administrative framework until further notice.

This development is significant for KP’s political landscape, as local government elections are crucial for grassroots governance and community representation. The exclusion of certain districts may lead to political discontent and calls for further reforms, as stakeholders express concerns over equitable representation.

Looking ahead, the ECP is expected to release a detailed electoral schedule and guidelines for the upcoming elections. Stakeholders, including political parties and civil society organizations, are urged to prepare for the electoral process and engage with the ECP to address any concerns regarding the delimitation and election conduct.
