FBR Exceeds Tax Collection Target by 11% in First Quarter of FY 2023-24
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reported a remarkable achievement in tax collection, amassing Rs3,083.5 billion during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24, surpassing its target of Rs3,053 billion by Rs30.5 billion. This collection reflects an 11% increase compared to the same period last year, indicating a positive trend in the country’s revenue generation efforts.
The FBR’s gross collection before refunds reached Rs3,286.7 billion, showcasing the agency’s efficiency in tax administration. Officials attribute this success to enhanced compliance measures and improved taxpayer services, which have encouraged more individuals and businesses to fulfill their tax obligations.
This significant increase in tax revenue is expected to bolster the government’s financial position, allowing for increased public spending on essential services and infrastructure development. Analysts suggest that sustained growth in tax collection is crucial for stabilizing the economy and reducing reliance on external borrowing.
Looking ahead, the FBR plans to implement further reforms aimed at broadening the tax base and improving collection mechanisms. Upcoming meetings will focus on strategies to engage more taxpayers and streamline the refund process, ensuring that the momentum in revenue collection continues throughout the fiscal year.
