FBR Launches Digital Auction System for Seized Goods in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched an innovative electronic auction system aimed at streamlining the disposal of seized and confiscated goods. This new initiative allows registered bidders to participate in online auctions with a minimum registration fee of Rs25,000.
The electronic auction mechanism features a 72-hour online bidding period, enabling bidders to make electronic payments for auction proceeds and facilitating the digital release of goods to successful bidders. The rules governing this system were officially notified through SRO 1889 of 2026 on Thursday.
Under the newly established regulations, individuals holding a valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) can register as bidders through the FBR’s auction module. Upon payment of the one-time registration fee, each bidder will receive a unique identification number. Importantly, an authorized Inland Revenue officer retains the right to reject any application on valid grounds, which must be documented in writing. The electronic platform will oversee all aspects of the auction process, including registration, goods listings, bidding, approvals, payments, deliveries, and record-keeping.
This digital transformation not only enhances efficiency in the auction process but also promotes transparency and accessibility for potential bidders across the country. As the FBR embraces technology, it signals a broader commitment to modernizing public services and improving operational effectiveness. Moving forward, stakeholders anticipate further developments in the auction system, potentially expanding the range of goods available and refining the bidding process.
