FBR Launches Surveillance Initiative for Five Key Industries in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has authorized four vendors to implement electronic production monitoring systems across five major industries, including packaged tea, household electronics, paper and paperboard, edible oil and ghee, and leather. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and compliance within these sectors.

The authorized vendors—Obsidian Technologies, Tollink Pakistan, ISSM Labelling Solutions, and Authentik—are tasked with supplying, installing, and maintaining these advanced monitoring systems. An FBR spokesperson stated, “This move is part of our broader strategy to curb tax evasion and ensure that manufacturers adhere to regulatory standards. We believe that real-time monitoring will significantly improve revenue collection and accountability in these industries.”

This initiative is expected to have far-reaching implications for the economy, as it seeks to increase tax compliance and reduce the informal sector’s impact. By closely monitoring production processes, the FBR aims to create a level playing field for all manufacturers, potentially leading to increased investment and economic growth.

Looking ahead, the FBR plans to roll out these monitoring systems in phases, with the first installations expected to begin within the next quarter. Stakeholders in the affected industries are encouraged to prepare for compliance with the new regulations, as the FBR emphasizes the importance of cooperation in this initiative.
