Four Killed Including Father and Son in Deadly Khuzdar Highway Crash
KHUZDAR: At least four people, including a father and his son, lost their lives on Wednesday in a catastrophic collision between a passenger coach and a private motorcar along a major artery in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district, rescue officials and local administration confirmed.
According to preliminary details provided by police and emergency first responders, the passenger coach was travelling at high speed when it collided head-on with an oncoming car. The impact was severe enough to crush the smaller vehicle instantly, resulting in the on-the-spot deaths of four occupants, identified as family members and close acquaintances. Rescue teams quickly mobilized to extricate the victims from the mangled wreckage and transferred the bodies to the Khuzdar Teaching Hospital for medico-legal formalities before handing them over to grieving relatives.
The tragedy once again underscores the perilous state of highway safety across Balochistan, where inter-district highways often turn into lethal corridors due to single-lane routes, inadequate illumination, reckless overtaking, and the absence of dual carriageways. Local civil society activists and commuter unions have repeatedly raised alarms over the frequent fatal accidents on the RCD Highway (N-25), often dubbed the ‘killer highway’, calling on authorities to urgently expedite infrastructure expansion and enforce stricter speed monitoring mechanisms.
District administration officials confirmed that an official inquiry into the incident has been initiated, with law enforcement personnel securing the crash site and impounding the passenger coach involved in the collision. Authorities are currently recording witness statements and pursuing legal proceedings against the coach driver to establish whether mechanical failure or driver negligence precipitated the fatal disaster.
