Government Employees Must Use Approved VPNs, National CERT Advises

ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) has issued a directive mandating that government employees utilize only approved virtual private networks (VPNs) for official communications. This measure aims to enhance cybersecurity protocols within government operations.

According to a spokesperson from National CERT, the use of unapproved VPNs poses significant risks to sensitive government data and could lead to potential breaches. The directive emphasizes that only those VPNs that meet specific security standards will be permitted for use by government staff, ensuring that data remains protected from unauthorized access.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity framework amidst rising concerns over digital threats. By regulating VPN usage, authorities aim to safeguard critical information and maintain the integrity of governmental operations, which is crucial for public trust and national security.

Moving forward, National CERT plans to conduct training sessions for government employees to familiarize them with the approved VPNs and the importance of adhering to these guidelines. Additionally, the agency will monitor compliance and assess the effectiveness of this policy in mitigating cybersecurity risks.
