ISLAMABAD: The government is poised to introduce a new private equity policy framework aimed at attracting between $10 billion and $15 billion in tax-neutral investments from both domestic and international players in the private equity sector.

The policy framework is expected to be finalized within the next two weeks, with implementation actions to be included in the upcoming finance bill for the fiscal year 2027-28. An official source indicated that regulatory measures would be enacted promptly following the framework’s completion, without waiting for the next budget cycle.

This initiative draws inspiration from successful models in the United Kingdom, the Middle East, and India, which have collectively attracted investments ranging from $100 billion to $150 billion. This information was shared with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb during a recent meeting of the prime minister’s committee focused on developing the National Private Equity Framework.

Looking ahead, the government plans to expedite the regulatory actions necessary to support this framework, signaling a proactive approach to enhancing the investment climate in Pakistan. Stakeholders are keenly awaiting further details as the finalization process unfolds.
