Government Raises Prices of Petrol and Diesel Amid Economic Challenges
ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has announced an increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, effective immediately, as part of its ongoing efforts to manage the country’s economic challenges.
The price of petrol has risen by PKR 10 per liter, while diesel prices have increased by PKR 12 per liter. This decision was made during a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) held on Tuesday, where officials cited rising global oil prices and the need to stabilize the national economy as key reasons for the hike.
This price adjustment is expected to have significant implications for the citizens, particularly in light of the ongoing inflationary pressures that have already strained household budgets. Analysts warn that the increase could lead to higher transportation costs, further exacerbating the cost of living crisis in the country.
Looking ahead, the government is expected to hold further discussions on economic strategies in the coming weeks, with a focus on mitigating the impact of these price increases on the public. Stakeholders are urging the administration to explore alternative energy sources and subsidies to cushion the blow for low-income families.
