Govt Enlists Oil Refineries to Offset Global Price Hikes for Citizens
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government announced on Monday that oil refineries will absorb a financial burden of approximately Rs15 billion each month. This initiative aims to reduce petrol prices by Rs15 below the current global market rates amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly the US-Israeli conflict involving Iran.
During a press conference in Islamabad, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar detailed the government’s strategy to shield citizens from fluctuating global oil prices. Malik emphasized that this measure is crucial for maintaining affordability for the public during these challenging times.
This decision is expected to have significant implications for the economy, potentially alleviating some inflationary pressures on consumers. By subsidizing petrol prices, the government aims to provide immediate relief to citizens who are grappling with rising costs of living, which have been exacerbated by international market volatility.
Looking ahead, the government plans to monitor the situation closely and may convene further discussions to evaluate the effectiveness of this subsidy program. Stakeholders in the oil industry will also be engaged to ensure that the initiative is sustainable in the long term.
