Govt Introduces New Auto Policy to Promote Cheaper Vehicles and EVs

Auto Policy

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has unveiled a new auto policy aimed at making vehicles more affordable and promoting electric vehicles (EVs). The announcement was made on Saturday during a press conference by Information Minister Attaullah Tarrar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar.

During the briefing, Akhtar emphasized the extensive efforts that went into drafting the policy, noting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif dedicated significant time to its development. He outlined that the policy is built on six fundamental pillars: affordability for the middle and lower middle classes, export enhancement, localization of production, vehicle safety, promotion of EVs, and transparency in the automotive sector.

This new policy is expected to have a considerable impact on the automotive market in Pakistan, potentially increasing access to vehicles for lower-income families and fostering a shift towards environmentally friendly transportation options. By focusing on EVs, the government aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and contribute to global sustainability efforts.

Looking ahead, the government plans to hold further discussions with industry stakeholders to refine the policy and ensure its successful implementation. This initiative marks a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by the automotive sector and aligns with global trends towards greener technologies.
