Govt Links Imran Khan Meetings to PTI Fulfilling Constitutional Duties

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Monday stated that meetings with incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan would be allowed to resume in accordance with the law, provided the opposition party fulfills its constitutional responsibilities in the parliament.

Speaking to the media regarding the ongoing political impasse, Sanaullah emphasized that the federal government is not looking to create arbitrary hurdles for the opposition. However, he asserted that the law applies equally to all citizens, and any facilitation regarding prison meetings at Adiala Jail must align strictly with established legal frameworks and prison rules rather than political pressure. “If PTI demonstrates responsibility in parliament, the state will respond in accordance with the law,” he added.

The statement comes amid heightened political tensions in Pakistan, with PTI demanding immediate, unrestricted access to its jailed leader and staging nationwide protests against alleged government restrictions. Political analysts suggest that the government’s stance is a strategic move to leverage prison visitation rights to bring PTI to the negotiating table, particularly concerning upcoming constitutional amendments and parliamentary cooperation.

While PTI leadership has yet to formally respond to Sanaullah’s conditional offer, parliamentary sessions scheduled for later this week are expected to be highly contentious. Observers will be watching closely to see if the opposition party tempers its protest strategy to secure legal relief and direct communication channels with Imran Khan.
