KARACHI: Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, expressed grave concerns regarding the upcoming elections, stating that it would be akin to the ‘Day of Judgment’ if the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secures seven National Assembly seats from Karachi. Speaking at an event in the city on November 5, 2026, he emphasized that both the PPP and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have effectively become relics of the past.

Rehman articulated his views during a public gathering, where he criticized the political landscape of Karachi, asserting that the dominance of traditional parties like the PPP and MQM is waning. He remarked, ‘If the PPP manages to win these seats, it will signify a troubling shift in the political dynamics of Karachi, which has long been a stronghold for these parties.’

This statement comes at a time when Karachi’s political scene is increasingly fragmented, with emerging parties and alliances challenging the status quo. The implications of a PPP victory could reshape the political landscape, potentially leading to increased tensions among rival factions and altering the balance of power in the National Assembly.

As the elections approach, political analysts are closely monitoring the situation, anticipating further developments and possible alliances. The Jamaat-e-Islami is expected to ramp up its campaign efforts in response to these concerns, aiming to consolidate its support base in Karachi.
