IEA Reports Release of 325 Million Barrels of Oil Amid Global Supply Concerns
PARIS: The International Energy Agency (IEA) announced on Saturday that its member countries have released 325 million barrels of oil and oil-derivative products from strategic reserves, part of a larger commitment of 400 million barrels made in March.
This update follows a recent agreement among G7 nations, in coordination with the IEA, to immediately release an additional 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil. This decision aims to alleviate global energy supply concerns exacerbated by the ongoing US-Iran conflict, which has significantly impacted oil markets.
The G7 has not clarified whether the newly announced 100 million barrels includes the remaining 75 million barrels from the March commitment or if it is an additional release. The pressure from the Trump administration has been evident, as the US government has urged its allies to tap into diesel reserves to counteract rising fuel prices affecting consumers both domestically and internationally.
As the Middle East conflict continues, restricted diesel supplies have emerged as a critical issue, particularly with Iran’s actions to limit ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz in response to US and Israeli military actions. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as global leaders assess the ongoing energy crisis.
