IHC Judge Withdraws from Case Amid Allegations of Impropriety

ISLAMABAD: Justice Arbab Mohammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) recused himself on Friday from hearing a petition filed by section officers challenging their repatriation to their home provinces. The judge expressed strong discontent over alleged attempts to influence the court proceedings.

During the hearing, Advocate Raja Aleem Abbasi represented the petitioners, who are primarily teachers serving on deputation. Justice Tahir criticized the petitioners for reportedly seeking recommendations and making phone calls to him regarding the case, stating, “You seek recommendations and have people call me; your work will not get done this way. This is wrong and inappropriate.”

This incident raises concerns about the integrity of judicial processes in Pakistan, highlighting the challenges faced by public servants in navigating bureaucratic hurdles. The petitioners are contesting the decision to repatriate them and are also seeking regularization and absorption into the Office Management Group (OMG), which could significantly impact their career trajectories.

The case’s withdrawal by Justice Tahir leaves the petitioners in a precarious position, as they must now seek a new judge to hear their plea. Legal experts suggest that this situation may lead to further scrutiny of the processes governing deputation and repatriation of government employees.
