India’s Cockroach Janata Party Founder Abhijeet Dipke Released from Custody

NEW DELHI: Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of India’s Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), was released from police custody on Saturday, just a day after his detention during a crackdown on protests against the election authority. Dipke, 31, was arrested on Friday while en route to a rally organized by the CJP in the Connaught Place district of the capital.

His arrest was reportedly made to prevent a potential breach of peace, as confirmed by local broadcasters NDTV and India Today. Upon his release, Dipke was seen leaving the police station, cheerfully waving to the media and giving a thumbs up, a moment captured by an AFP photographer. Ratna Singh, the CJP’s legal affairs chief, announced his release on social media.

This incident highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding India’s electoral processes and the growing dissent against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration. The CJP has been vocal in its criticism of the election authority, and Dipke’s detention has sparked discussions about the limits of free speech and assembly in the country.

Looking ahead, the CJP is expected to continue its protests, advocating for electoral reforms and greater transparency. The political landscape in India remains charged as citizens increasingly demand accountability from their leaders.
